Loved your thoughts addressed to Americans. The fact remains that some of Bush's best supporters are peace loving Iraqi's and hopeful Iranians and North Koreans.

It would be a true tragedy if the US elects John Kerry. It will be a victory for the terrorists and a major blow to people looking toward freedom.

When will there be a demonstration in Iraq supporting the re-election of George Bush and condemning the surrender policies proposed by John Kerry. Believe me, there is no bigger election that this.

Please don't listen to the media. We here in America have no intention of quiting before the job is done and you can live in peace. The thing is that this is an election and some will say anything to get elected. I will tell you about us Americans. We don't listen to the slander and I don't understand why the politicians continue to do this. The majority of us are silent about who we are going to vote for. This is a good thing because the silent ones do not agree with the ones that are trying to change things for the worse. Believe me when I say that John Kerry will not be our President. I have yet to meet a person that is going to vote for him. When I say we are silent, i mean we don't let "the powers that be" know what we are thinking. However we do discuss this among our family and friends. So don't worry, we will not let you be turned over to the UN, we don't trust them neither! We will not leave until you ask us to go. I can't imangine John Kerry becoming president and then start bringing our guys and girls home before the job is finished. We let you down before and we will not do it agian. If Kerry was to start withdrawing troops all Hell would break loose over here. Please believe what I am saying for I have no polictcal agenda, I just want the best person for the job, a person that will stand behind what he says and who will do the right thing no matter what anyone else thinks. This is how America works! Please stay safe and may God bless you.

The democratic process is about as messy as it gets, and when a big issue like the war in Iraq is in play, it is nerve-racking to everyone. The trick is believing that people do have the judgement to govern themselves. I'm hoping that most of my fellow Americans are not so steeped in their comforts that they would deny our responsibility to get Iraq back up on its feet.

I have come to realize that there is nothing that can be done about those who are dead-set on driving the US out. There is nothing that can be done about the anti-Americanism in the Arab media either.

We just have to push through and keep fighting them until they give up.
 

Thank you for your words Firas. They will help those Americians who aren't sure if our being there is the right thing. Everyone knows how the mainstream press makes it seem - as if most Iraqis preferred living under the cruelty of Saddam's tyranny. That is what the left wants the world to believe, look at their "hero" Michael Moore who says "there are no terrorists in Iraq, they are freedom fighters and they will win".

As others have said I believe that most Americians are determined to see that we do what is right by Iraq this time. I have to believe that.
I think that President Bush will be re-elected by a much larger margin than people think too. But even if my fellow citizens elect John Kerry, he won't be able to do as much as he might like. I for one intend to hold his feet to the fire on Iraq, I'm sure I'm not alone.

I'm hoping that we still have and hold the values of our founding fathers such as:
“I have sworn... eternal hostility against every form of tyranny over the mind of man” (Thomas Jefferson).
 

Here, I think, is a fair assessmen of what Americans are thinking:

In the end, it is the Iraqis who will determine the future of Iraq, not the U.N. or the U.S.

Few Americans believe the U.N. can do anything other than make empty proclamations, so if we "hand over" Iraq to the U.N., it's not because we believe in the U.N's effectiveness. It's because have wearied of trying to give democracy to a country that contains too many people who simply would rather die (and kill) than have it, and too few who wanted it badly enough to make the necessary sacrifices.

We cannot give you democracy. We can only give you a chance. The Iraqi people will either find a way to work together to take advantage of that chance, or they will continue to suffer repression, dictatorship, or even Islamic theocracy.

Well said Firas. We know things are hard in Iraq. I wish we could personally do something. A couple comments...

1. I agree with your post, we need to elect Bush, no doubt, however I can not believe that Kerry will pull out. There is too much at stake.

2. The UN does somethings well. It superivises elections, it aids in reconstruction, it deals well with humitariartian disaters ect...It does challenge dictatorial regimes.

3. People around the world are against US involvement in Iraq because their are US interest involved. If US interest are involved there has to be some evil undercurrent playing out. If you were a poor African country there would be no problems. You are wealthy country that happens to have alot of oil.

4. I heard a European intellectual on TV, his point is simple. The best way to change the Middle East is to have strong democratic instuitions at home (EU, ECM ect. Most families in the southern and eastern Meditarean have families that live Europe, these people go home ask why their goverments can not be more like Europe. This creates an undercurrent for change. EU expansion and expansion of enlightment ideas will bring about change, not war. War has unseen consequences.

5. The Iraq war is very polimic now in America. We don't see much good news. 3 to 4 soldiers die a day and we get blamed for slow reconstruction. The news from Afganistan is quite good. It takes the blogs and a deep seated belief in humanity and people to think this will work out. I believe Bush has that faith.

I read all the iraqi blogs and you are one of the ones that I follow. I appreciate your commentary. In every country you have short-sighted people... many who have trouble seeing to the end of their feet.

The world still has a lot of room to improve and unfortunately there as still a whole lot of Americans who are detached from world affairs and from real cause and effect.

The only countries who seem to give a damn are england and it's former colonies. The USA, UK, Australia, and Canada seem to be pulling most of the weight (Canada less because of the French influence). In all fairness, Japan and Korea are both helping as well as Poland and Italy, but these two have had significant cultural contacts with the USA as well as a couple of wars and occupations.

My point is that the English way seems to be the way towards freedom. Even the smaller Carribean colonies that were English seemed to do well. Consider the Bahamas or the Cayman Islands... Compare that to Haiti, the poorest country in our hemisphere, which was a French Colony.

I do live in America and really the only thing I can do to help you at this time is to vote for Bush. This is in my control and so you can guarantee my support.

The people who read these blogs are more than likely to be republican because people who are interested in art, television, and literature don't tend to go to these type of sites. I would venture to say that the majority of people voting for Kerry couldn't even point out Iraq on a map.

FG, Thanks for posting again. If your daughter is only 5, why not keep her home. She is really very young to understand all the potential hazards. You need to protect the young who will become educated because of educated parents. One year delay will not be too much to ask in order to keep her safe. In North Carolina and some other states we can vote earlier that Nov. 2nd. I voted today and believe me GWB was the one I voted for because I cannot trust Kerry to follow through in Iraq. The UN doesn't have troops so it would be the same group of troops currently there. America does not place it's troops under the command of any other country or organization, so that would not change a thing. The leaders of all countries troops in Iraq work cooperatively but the top man is American. Remember to pray for GWB. If you can contact Allawi, it would be good for him to endorse Bush since Kerry basically called Allawi a liar. Putin in Russia, Howard in Australia, The PM of Japan have endorsed Bush. I will try to send your post to people in US.

Firas, It's wonderful to hear from you again. Excellent post, one of your best. Let me echo what many others are saying. I believe Bush will win by a wide margin and hope if Kerry does win, we will still stay in Iraq until you can stand on your own feet. With our support and the determination of Iraqis like you, those who stand in the way of freedom will be defeated.
 

This American does not want anything to do with the UN either. I know a lot of Americans that agree. I think we are able to hang in there. If Bush wins I hope it will send a message to the terriost that making trouble in Iraq will not effect our election (or your upcoming election). PS glad to see you post, I was a bit worried when I didn't see one for such a long time

Hey good to hear from you I have been worried about you. Great post! I will link to everywhere I can. I am curious what your reaction is the polls here in the US saying that 90% of the Muslims are going to vote for Kerry?

I agree with most people who have posted above Bush will win and we will finish what we started. Don’t listen to Kerry nothing that comes out of his mouth is the truth he is just a desperate man trying to get elected.

I am very encouraged about the recent reports I have been hearing about people stepping up in Falluga (I know I spelled it wrong) and turning in the foreign fighters and terrorist or killing them. This is what it takes if you want to be free. Things will probably get worse before they get better but in the end it will be worth it.

Stay safe and post more often don’t leave us hanging.

Thanks for writing. The U.S. is in the middle of a particularly nasty election. Candidates in an election often make promises they cannot (or will not) keep, exaggerate, and generally blather on alot. We discount much of what is said in election campaigns. No one person has enough power to enact laws, etc. At best a "campaign promise" only indicates what the candidate considers important and will work towards. Don't take it too seriously.

That said, there are two more points. This is an unusually nasty election. Many people here feel a Kerry presidency would be extremely dangerous for America, and are working hard to keep the election clean and a landslide for Bush.

A lot of Muslim organizations (many of them terrorism supporters) are endorsing Kerry. Signs in Iraq along the lines of "Thank you for getting rid of Saddam" or "Thank you Bush for helping us" or some sort of pro-Bush, pro-American sentiment would make an impact here.

Lastly, democracy arises from within. Nobody can "give" you democracy. Iraq belongs to Iraqi citizens and it is Iraqi citizens who will decide what develops in your country. If you want democracy, you have to work for it and create it. The U.S. & the other coalition countries have given you a chance, and we will help you rebuild, but it is the Iraqis - and only the Iraqis - who decide what happens to your country. Each Iraqi can do something to make Iraq a better place, whether it is fixing up your children's schools, reporting weapons caches or mines in the roadways to the military for clean-up, helping to monitor polls at elections...

Remember, if somebody "gives" it to you, it is not democracy. It is up to you to make it happen.

I'd like to suggest a phrase, or expression, to describe or name those who are causing or supporting disorder and chaos: "anti-liberationists". I have begun using it to describe both the terrorists there and the opponents of Iraqi liberation here. It covers both, nicely.
 

You are 100% correct. Please recommend to all the Iraqi Bloggers to post blogs supporting the president. If you have any friends that have American friends urge them to vote for President Bush. The US media is reporting that 70% of Islamic American voters are voting for Kerry. Ask them to re-evaluate there position and give President Bush the vote.

I think that Iraqis should start doing more. Not that everyone should fight, but there are many things than can be done that are not violent. More people can speak out, even if they just find ways to do it anonymously for now. The good people can call in to the TV talk show, and the radio one. People can print out small posters with their ideas on them, such as short sayings about democracy, tolerance, or the evils of corruption. Go to the mosques that preach moderation instead of the ones that feature rabble-rousers.
Depending on the police and army, on the government, is not enough. When the Iraqi people find that they can do far more than their government, then they will truly be free.

There already are terms to use that accurately describe what you call "anti-liberationist". These people are MUFSIDOON (i.e. evildoers according to the Koran) and are engaged in al-HIRABA (i.e. unholy war or "war against society", according to the Fiqh - Islamic Jurispudence). These words have specific meanings in Islam and to Arabs.

One of America’s greatest men of words, Mark Twain, once said that the difference between exactly the right word and one which is only marginally correct “is akin to the difference between lightning and a lightning bug”.

No way will those terms get picked up by English speakers. I suggested anti-liberationist because it spreads wide enough to cover the paradoxical position of the anti-interventionist new left, and highlights the hole in their heads.

Don't sweat it too much about your daughter's school. It's been found that an unschooled 10 or 11-year old can catch up on all the material missed in about 6 months. Just keep her interested and involved -- and safe.
 

Firas: Just as the media lies to us about Iraq, so it lies to you about us. We're not going anywhere until you are strong enough to stand on your own, or until you ASK us to leave.

I believe President Bush is going to be re-elected because there is so much left to be done. Sometimes Americans can be a little frivolous, but I think when they go into that voting booth, and it's time to mark their choice, they will mark Bush/Cheney. They may not admit it to their "friends" but I think that's what they are going to do.

I think the Iraqi people will be in much better hands if John Kerry wins the election. Unlike President Bush and Vice President Cheney, John Kerry has no designs in maintaining an occupation of Iraq, on the oil in your country, the pipeline that is planned to go through Afghanistan to bring natural gas from the Caspian Sea,the billions of dollars Halliburton, Vice President Cheney is the former CEO, is going to make off the reconstruction of your country, nor the money Carlyle group is going to charge Kuwait to recover the money owed to them by Iraq. Donald Rumsfeld, Jim Baker, and other close Bush associates are with Carlyle Group. Your current Prime Minster was also a member of the Carlyle Group.

John Kerry wants to bring other nations into the rebuilding of Iraq, and in turn they will commit troups to help fight the insurgents. John Kerry has no intentions of dumping the Iraqi people on the U.N.

I don't blame you for being outraged by the talk about the United Nations, they are a disgusting lot. I wish we could boot them out of our country. Americans are finally aware of the scandalous handling of the Oil for Food program. Some of our own oil companies have been named as participants.

I, like many Americans, don't think ousting Saddam was a bad thing to do. He was a vile dictator. There are many vile dictators in the world. I don't know what it's like to live such a nightmare; but I do know America can't invade every country with a Dictator, or every country involved in financing terrorism. The people of those countries have to rise up and fight. Our military is for the protection of the United States. This war has cost the American people 140 billion dollars so far, and Iraq was not an immediate threat to the United States.

I do think America and Iraq would have been better served if we had crushed Osama and the other terrorists first. Osama attacked the United States on 9/11, not Saddam. President Bush, his family, and his associates have been doing business with the Saudi Royal family for years. Osama is a member of the Saudi royal family. There were 13 Saudi men involved in the 9/11 attack. A huge amount of the funding for the terrorist is coming from Saudi Arabia. What does President Bush do, he invades Iraq. Something is amiss, don't you think?

In the end, Frias, the freedom of the Iraqi people is in the hands of the Iraqi people. You have to fight with guns or passive resistance like (Ghandi in India or Marting Luther King in America) and be willing to die for it.

You have to have more faith in freedom, in a human being's free will, than in any religious dogma. Patrick Henry, a hero from our revolutionary war said, "Give me Liberty, or give me death!"

Do you think the Iraqi people are ready for that kind of mental revolution? Freedom can't be given by human beings, they can only take it away. You've already been given a free will by your Creator, whether it be Allah, Jehova, Jesus Christ, Buddah, none or all of the above. Free will is universal, religions are not.

I would also like to say that Declaring yourself as a Democrat or Republican doesn't make a person a hate monger. Hate mongers are everywhere in this world, and they call themselves by lots of different names.
That's why it requires constant vigillance to maintain freedom.

Keep fighting for your freedom, I believe all of the American people want you and all of the Iraqi people to have success in forming a free and democratic country. I opposed invading Iraq, but now that we are there, like John Kerry, I want the United States to help the Iraqi people win their freedom back. I'm not so sure about our current administration so stay vigilant.

So pleased to read your post. All we hear is the bad news, and it's hard to know what the Iraqi people want. Cannot tell you how reassuring it is to know that you see down the road for Iraq and realize there will be an end to this violence.

While I hope W gets elected and "brings it to the Islamists all over the world", I sincerely hope either one will buy Iraqis the time they need for things to settle down.

I do worry about Iraqis losing their new found freedom to a taliban style theocracy, because that would be as much of a horror show as Saddam. They are no more prepared to fight against that oppression than Saddam. What a wasted chance for a people who so deserve only the best after all the years of misery.

There are so many Americans who share your views. The problem is that there is another struggle going on in America. Liberal democrats are fuming that their social agenda is being gradually moved aside. Thus, they despise Bush and anything he does. Their self-interest prevents them from supporting Bush, and, indirectly, the fight for Iraq's freedom. So many groups have so much to lose if Iraq becomes a democracy. That is why we must stay strong and support our President's "march to freedom."

Thank you for your comments. I believe that Bush will win and rightly so. I don't trust Kerry at all - and I don't trust the UN. As for your daughter - I would keep her home. Nothing for nothing - and I'm not trying to get in your business - but I homeschool my kids and believe that kids need to be with their parents. We are ultimately responsible for their education and we know and love our children better than anyone. This election campaign here in the US has been nasty - it's ridiculous. Don't believe what you hear in the papers my friend. I don't believe the MSM is reflective of where the majority of Americans are. As for 91-92, I personally apologize for that decision even though I had nothing to do with it. I think that the blame should be equally divided between the US, the UN and the Arab countries surrounding you who insisted that Saddam not be taken out. You have a right to be angry about it however I think that the reality of it shows that it was not solely the US' decision. Can we look forward from here on out and try to do the right thing now? Thank goodness GW had the balls to buck the UN and finally do the right thing.

I know I can’t vote or make any difference but truth will make that difference, so it must be said, and telling facts will help showing the truth.

I hope with all my heart that the truth will hit home to American voters, or as the British used to say long ago, that "the truth will out." I hope that a majority will remember our obligations to the Iraqi people and to the Afghanis, and vote for the man who recognized these in the first place. This is what I hope, and this above all else will determine my vote.

I take issue again with your personal attack. Just because a person has a differing point of view, and not necessarily the one you described, doesn't make them twisted. It shows that our Democratic Republic is thriving.

I've heard Senator Kerry speak on numerous occasions, and not once have I heard him say, "liberating the Iraqis is a mistake". What I'm hearing him say is the invasion of Iraq at the point in time President Bush did it was a mistake. Our first priority was to kill Osama and company for attacking us on 9/11.

In addition, Bush rushed into the war unprepared. He listened to Donald Rumsfeld instead of his military advisers, including Colon Powell. Now we have tremendous loss of life of Iraqis, American troops, contractors... all which could have been prevented in part or in whole had Bush used his military advisers instead of his "gut". Bush created a huge "cluster fark".

I keep hearing people complain that Bush had no plan for Iraq. I am curious what those people think the plan should have been. I am also curious to know if the "others" had been doing the planning if it would have been perfect. The no plan argument seems empty to me. My hope is that when people actually get into the voting booth they hear themselves being empty and vote to let President Bush lead another four years as it should be. Our message to the world, the one the average American believes in, is that we aren't giving up Iraqi freedom or our own freedom. A vote against Bush this year does not send that message, but its opposite.
 

Firs, the United States should not have invaded Iraq. However,the plan Bush should have used was the one presented by Colon Powell and other military advisers. Use overwhelming force. They told Bush there weren't enough troops to keep the peace after the fall of Saddam. President Bush decided to go against their advice and follow Donald Rumsfeld's plan, which was no plan. The mess in Iraq is the responsibility of President Bush. The innocent lives being lost because of Bush's ego and greed is a disgrace. In 1953 Iraq had a democracy, they were going to nationalize the oil fields, the United States sent in the CIA to topple the government. Bush is there for one reason, and one reason only, to control the oil. If there wasn't any oil in Iraq, Bush wouldn't give a damn what kind of inhumane dictator the Iraqi people lived under. Americans, our military, and the Iraqi people are pawns in an international chess game of greed.
 

Correction to previous post. Iran had a democracy in 1953, US CIA and British MI6 toppled the government and installed the Sha(sic) as a dictator.
 

The phase "Freedom is not free" means more than just money and lives, it means each person must have determination and courage. For some things it just means becoming better informed, but for some things it may mean fight until death. America and her friends have come into your country and captured a evil man and removed his power over you. The door to freedom is now open for you and your countrymen to enter. We are fighting everyday to hold open that door for you and your countrymen. Tell your countrymen that we wish for your children to grow up to enjoy a safe and happy life. The children are the future, both there and here. We will NOT WAVIER from our commitment because to do so tells the rest of the world we are not really determined seeking Freedom and Peace. The one thing the world should know about Americans is that we do not give up so easily. Yes, we would rather be building tractors for farming instead of airplanes, tanks and battleships, but evil men started this war. The U.N. as a whole are not strong fighters for freedom, and several members are corrupt with greed and have no resolve to stand firm. Interesting bunch of posts here. The ignorance and racism of some of the President's fans is frightening. I especially enjoyed the anti French comments. Why do I get the feeling this blog is republican political propaganda?

If you dig up your history books you'll see that your great tyrant Saddam Hussein was created, supported and nurtured by none other than the great USA to counter Russia's influence on Iran. We of the USA gave Saddam money, weapons, and the means and facilities to manufacture and test chemical and biological weapons.

If you blame Saddam for what he did, blame the root of the problem, the USA. This country has a great history of meddling in and destabilizing other countries through the CIA and other clandestine resources.

When Saddam was no longer useful to us and became a threat, we had to eliminate him. Now it is simply control over Iraqi oil and reconstruction efforts by huge American companies like Halliburton etc that drive US efforts in the Iraqi region. Do you think for a moment that it is altruism? It's just Iraqi money finding its way into the coffers of these huge behemoths, KBR, Bechtel, Stone and webster, etc through no-bid contracts engineered by Dick Cheney and his croneys.

If America is such a 'freedom loving' country and stands for freedom and democracy, why did we not invade North Korea, who have openly proclaimed they have nukes, and have even blasted one at a test site? Simply because there's nothing much out there for American companies to profit from. No oil, no other natural resources.

If you really are an Iraqi and this blog is for real, my sympathies are with you. One thing I can say for sure, you guys will not see much peace as long as the US army is in your country. I am sorry but that is a fact.
